I don't know when, but as of lately vampire novels have become off the top - cliché. Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems every time I'm at the bookstore now people are saying something along the lines of: "Don't tell me that book is about vampires." Since when has it become so condescending? Vampires used to be cool and creepy.

I think the Twilight series has something to do with it. Not that I have anything against the series, but I think all of the fan obsession has really degraded vampire books everywhere.

That's why I'm kind of nervous about my new vampire writing project I'm working on. Since reading Twilight, I wanna start fresh, I wanna go back to vampires being the bad the guys - the eternally damned. My main character is a prostitute. The setting of my story takes place in a grubby city full of low lives. My vampire is on the run and needs somewhere to hide and cover tracks. It's full of crime, death and betrayal. I didn't want to paint a rainbow for this project. I'm just kind of hesitant to make it a full blown novel because of the vampire buzz lately. It's enough to stop my story cold.
